2015 - 2016 crossover jewellery trends

Jewellery Style2015 – 2016 Crossover Jewellery Trends

As any style watcher knows, the worlds of fashion and jewellery design are related but distinct. Having looked at crossover fashion trends from 2015, it is fitting that jewellery be given the attention they deserve.

I revel in all styles of jewellery, trendy and soon-to-be-trendy. But we’ve gotta live in the moment and the list below reflects the jewellery trends that have started off strong in 2016. These 5 trends are so sophisticated and nuanced that I see them trending for the better part of this year. Indeed, many women will enjoy them long after this moment in the spotlight.

Tasseled Jewellery

Playful and whimsical, tasseled jewellery are hot! The tendril trimmings of this style of ornamentation can be made of anything at all. Silk threads, Beads, chains, hair, feather, leather and braids have all been used to make stunning tasseled jewellery. Infact, we are having a tassel moment as they can also be seen on shoes, bags and belts. All in all, you can’t go wrong with something tasseled this year.

Coin Charms

Jewellery with coin charms and pendants continue to be popular among women of all ages. Metal coins are a part of traditional jewellery in many cultures, notably among the Gypsies and some Indian tribes. With their darkened lustre and etched surfaces, popular coin jewellery have a strong tribal vibe. Whether in plentiful clusters or as a single pendant, coin jewellery are simply cool.

Tortoise Accessories

It’s all about the pattern. The distinctive brown and black of tortoise shell accessories have made them a coveted item for years. Glasses with Tortoise frames have been fashionable for as long as I can remember. In recent times, designers like Micheal Kors revamped this trend by creating wristwatches, bangles and necklaces with tortoise accents. For versatile jewellery that are fashionable and sophisticated, Tortoise is the way to go.

Mismatched Earrings

Most women expect their earrings to be identical to a fault. It’s a long standing expectation and as a jewellery maker, it is the standard to which I aspire. However, mismatch earrings are increasingly popular beyond the gothic, urban crowd. This fringe trend is slowly going mainstream. Many top designers have taken on this trend and the message of ‘perfect imperfection’ it conveys. By upending expectations with asymmetry, whimsy, opposition and sometimes, outright contradiction, this trend is part of a larger movement to help people see beauty in all its forms. Mismatch is fabulous!

Drop-Shaped Earrings

There cannot be too many odes to the drop-shape. It has a long history. I’ve written about its allure (Download the newsletter HERE) and am happy to do so again. This shape continues to inspire designers and charm women around the world. High-end or street style, get it however you can.
