Ah Fashion!
If you’re a fashion lover you’ll recognize all the trends below because we totally enjoyed them in 2015. They graced runways and were donned by our favourite celebs. They rocked our closets and made us cool. They were the beloved trends of last year and they’re well worth enjoying in 2016.
Here are 10 fashion trends that will continue to fly off the shelves this year as more designers explore them and more women embrace them.
African Print Everything!
Yes oh! Those superbly graphic fabrics that are seen on the streets of African cities everyday are the stuff of which today’s cosmopolitan fashion items are made. Dresses, Skirts, Bags, Shoes and accessories cut from African fabrics are coveted by many and yes, we approve!
Minaudiere
Question: Is it a clutch or a piece of jewellery?
Answer: It’s all of the above and so much more.
I love the Minaudiere and I love what designers like Judith Leiber, Olympia Le Tan, Rafe and Rauwolf have done with it. This is one accessory that should adorn every woman’s arm at least once this year!
Jumpsuits
It was the season of the onesie. It’s still the season of the onesie. And in the land of onesies, the jumpsuit is king. While Pinafores and Rompers are stylish yet casual, many designers took the jumpsuit to the very pinnacle of high fashion. This is why a jumpsuit could very well be the thing to wear for that special dinner date.
Floral Prints
Ah Floral Prints! When they re-emerged a few years ago, they were fresh, light and airy. 12 months later, dark floral prints were all the rage. In 2015, we saw more of abstract and fragmented florals. And this year, I’ve seen enlarged florals, florals mixed with botanicals, and signs that you can’t go wrong with a hint of floral.
Pencil Skirts
It’s the best of all skirts. It has a flattering silhouette, it looks smart and it feels elegant. Pencil skirts look good on everyone. That’s why we love them and that’s why they’re still trendy.
Block Heel Shoes
Come to think of it, it’s no surprise that platform heels and wedges have segued into a block heels frenzy. They’re related. They guarantee comfort, stability and elevation with elegance. I for one am a fan.
Crossbody Bags
Crossbody bags (also known as saddle bags) are so adorable. They are very functional and very stylish. It’s amazing how beautifully carefree a woman seems when her hands are not permanently engaged in holding a purse. This is the go-to bag when you want to go places, have fun and keep a few of your stuff around too.
Full Midi Skirts
This is a great moment in women’s fashion. Form fitting styles like pencil skirts and bodycon dresses are trending alongside full midi skirts and oversized box tops. There’s something for everyone. Carpe Diem!
High Waist Pants
So retro and so chic. They are perfect for cropped tops and are leading members of the on-trend casuals ensemble. ♥ ♥
Culottes
Is it a full midi skirt or a pair of culottes? That’s one question everyone but the wearer will care about. This trend has a significant fan base though it’s not yet a mainstream trend. It’s quirky, it’s sophisticated and yeah, It’s French!
