ColourColour Chat: Remarkable Browns

As with the colour Black, there are many who simply adore anything Brown. There’s a brown for every temperament, from conservative to flamboyant.

There are popular browns like Caramel & Chocolate; Dark & Broody browns like Coffee and Bronze; Sophisticated browns like Cognac, Beige, and Auburn; Earthy browns like Sienna, Umber, and Ochre; etc

I’ve had my eyes on a few and in this post, I share 6 shades of brown which I find very interesting. While some are less familiar than others, one thing is certain; they contribute to the appeal, versatility, and classiness of some of our favourite accoutrement!

Chocolate

Chocolate is definitely a classic shade of brown. Its rich, warm look is appreciated by many. It also combines well with just about any colour.

Cafe au Lait

Cafe au Lait is a shade that’s also known as Tan. It is a soft brown with a rugged, dull look that carries over well in accessories like shoes and bags.

Brass

There’s so much nuance to this colour. It has unmistakable hints of yellow, of gold, and also, the faintest touch of olive green. Whether in metallic or flat colours, brass always combines well. Together, brass and gold create fabulous mixed metal accessories.

Copper

As I mention in ‘The Other Metallics’, the beauty of copper is its attractive reddish – orange tone. As a result of this exotic look, jewellery with metallic copper finishing have a distinctive tribal kind of glamour.

Amber

This is a shade of brown I greatly admire. Named after special fossilized resin, Amber has a glow not quite captured in any single flat colour. It is only under bright light that the lovely mixed glow of Amber is best observed.

Cognac

Cognac is a brown that’s synonymous with class. It is also considered a dark variation of Amber.

The sophistication of Cognac is extolled in interior and fashion design. That’s because in spite of its strong presence, it is a very effective neutral.

So, which one of these 6 is your favourite? Is it delectable chocolate, alluring café au lait, intriguing brass, exotic copper, dynamic amber, or sophisticated cognac?
