Jewellery StyleInspiring Jewellery
Inspiration is in demand. As a jewellery maker, few things are as inspiring as seeing what others have created. There’s so much to see and so much to admire. In this post, I share examples of great hand-crafted jewellery that correspond to 5 interesting sub-themes in trending accessory styles.
The Elaborate
Featuring: ‘Diamante Bracelet’ by Massimo Dutti
———-
Elaborate pieces like this one are a sight to behold! This bracelet for instance, is appealing in many ways. The details and pattern by themselves, are very attractive.
The real beauty of elaborate designs however, is how the many details come together to create a harmonious piece of jewellery.
This bracelet may be familiar when seen up-close: sequins, beads, stitches, and major faceted baubles. But together, they evoke the beauty, nostalgia of vintage style. Quite Beautiful!!!

The Nature Connection
Featuring: ‘Samourai Neckpiece’ by Urban Zen
———-
I was simply blown away the first time I saw this work. The appearance of unpolished wood never looked so beautiful! As I discovered recently, this ‘unpolished’ effect is very intentional.
The maker accentuates the grainy, fibrous texture and dark patterns of Ebony to create a collection of beautiful, earthy jewellery.
Earthy styles have always been appealing. Seeing this particular neckpiece pinned and liked by so many, leads me to believe this earthy sub-trend may yet go mainstream!!!

The Colour Riche
Featuring: ‘Navajo Cuff’ by Anabel Campbell | Wolf Badger
———-
Colour Richness! Colour Opulence! Color Largesse! Whatever you call it, however you identify it: Colour is in! It has been for more than a year now and I’m a fan.
This wristcuff showcases the best of the ‘Colour Riche’ sub-trend: Bright colours and an awesome palette! It features 2 star colours of this season: Fuchsia & Tangerine; and one universally adored colour: Gold.
Sceptics of the ‘Colour Riche’ sub-trend need not conjure up images of colour clashes and colour stand-outs. This mix of colours means this wristcuff can be versatile, depending on the other cast of your clothing ensemble.

The Improvised
Featuring: Twisted Fabric Neckpiece by Confetti System
———-
Improvisation, as a sub-trend, is quite interesting. By its nature, it is not associated with one particular material, or any particular form / shape.
In the end, the appeal of an improvised piece will depend on what the material used to be, what it has become, and how we feel about it.
So while I realize this particular design may not be appealing to most people, I cannot resist the urge to celebrate the successful conversion of what looks like royal blue jersey fabric into an exceptional necklace.
It was really interesting to learn more about what informs the creations of Confetti System. Their philosophy informed my understanding of their work. And so it turns out that another influence on how we see an improvised work is the artist’s motive. [Read about Confetti System here]
The Conventionals Revived
Featuring: ‘Stacked Stone Drops’ by Sura Jewelry as seen on Anthropologie.com
———-
Conventional pieces of jewellery, like studs and drops, are making a comeback. But if this pair of earrings is any indication, the conventionals of tomorrow will be worth the wait!!!
This pair is absolutely adorable! Between the colour combination of Turquoise and Rose, the juxtaposition of a square stud and a round drop, the gold cast, and semi-precious stones like turquoise and quartz, I’m simply smitten.
And finally, knowing that it is handmade is a real inspiration. [see ‘stacked drops’ on anthropologie.com or See Sura Jewelry website]
