Jewellery StyleThe Versatile Matinee Necklace
A Matinee Necklace is longer than a Princess Necklace but shorter than an Opera Necklace. At about 22.0 – 26.0 inches long (give or take 2 inches), it’s often part of (the very popular) multi-layered pearl necklace.
While this pearly version is more conventional, it is by no means the only way to have a Matinee piece that is suitable for the workplace and a dressy ensemble.
The word ‘Matinee’ is french in origin. In English, it is used to describe shows, performances, and movies screened between late morning and mid afternoon (see Wikipedia). The name ‘Matinee Necklace’ gets its meaning from this term.
It’s easy to see that this style of necklace is intended to be multi-purpose: Suitable for a midday event attended during work hours (for instance).
Being able to combine a workplace look with a dressy style; or a workplace look with a casual style; or a sophisticated look with a sense of casual ease are what make the Matinee Necklace ideal for flexible accessorizing!
